Hong Kong Gameone Online Entertainment Group Limited and US UFO Interactive Games have set up UFO Creative HK Ltd to develop Nintendo DS and Wii games that encompass Chinese culture. The games will be distributed to US, Europe and Asia by Tommo Incorporated, one of the biggest North America video games distributors.
There are two games in the works, one for the Nintendo DS, the other for the Wii. The first game: Mini Chinese Resturant, is a DS game that revloves around Hong Kong’s high tea (tim sum) resturants (having high tea in resturants is Hong Kong’s culture). Most likely, you can expect eating or cooking in this resturant-themed genre. The other Nintendo game, is Monkey King 2 for the Wii. MK 2 is an action game which is based on a Chinese classic, Journey to the West (pic above). Both games are in for 2008 release.
It’s about time that more Nintendo games are created by Chinese game devlopers as Chinese-based games that are made by the Japanese often ended up looking more like Japanese anime.
Dragonball is also loosely based on Journey to the West via 17173
