On October 7th Discovery Channel premiered the original series, Iditarod, which is the historic 1,150 mile sled dog race over some of the world’s most beautiful – and most challenging – terrain was documented from beginning to end through the eyes of the men and women who dared to take on the monumental challenge.

Well it seems Republican Vice Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin has also had her hand in this historic race. Her husband Todd Palin was the 2000 and 2002 champion of the race. He races in the Tesoro Iron Dog, the longest snowmobile race in the world. The race runs from Wasilla to Nome to Fairbanks. The Iditarod sled dog race only runs to Nome. The snowmobile race adds an entire other leg.

In 2008, 400 miles from defending his Tesoro Iron Dog championship, he was injured and broke his arm when he was thrown 70 feet from his machine. He was sent to the hospital but managed to finish in fourth place. This race is the world’s longest snowmobile race which traces the path of the Iditarod race with an extra journey of several hundred miles to Fairbanks added.

Todd Palin first competed in the race in 1993 and has been the champion four times. His racing co-pilot is Scott Davis. He has previously raced with Dusty Van Meter in the race, and they were co-champions in 2000 and 2002.

I think you have some of your facts confused… Todd Palin has never run the Iditarod Sled Dog race, which is being shown right now on the Discovery Channel.

Todd, as you mentioned is the previous champion of the Iron-dog Snowmachine Race.

Thanks Josh, yes I know that Todd is not nor was not the Iditarod champion. Which is why its a “?” at the end. Thanks so much though for your comment as I can see how other readers might get this confused as well.
