Nene, the physically imposing center for the Denver Nuggets, has earned a two-game suspension from the NBA for a headbutt in a recent game against the Phoenix Suns. He will be eligible to return on Feb. 28 against the Golden State Warriors.
This season has been a breakout season for the native of Brazil. He’s averaging 14.6 points, 7.8 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in 32.7 minutes per game — all career-highs. He’s also shooting a career-bests 60.3% from the field and 72.6% from the charity stripe.
It’s been quite a bounce back season for Nene after missing most of last season due to testicular cancer. At 26, the 6-foot-11, 250 pound bigman is now better than ever after beating the illness.
Once he returns to action, Nene will resume helping the Nuggets try to finish as high in the Western Conference standings as possible. With the standings very close, Denver could conceivably finish anywhere from the 2nd seed to the 8th seed.
