August 1st Louisiana Downs Recap
Sloppy and off the turf for Louisiana Cup day. Wet main track played fair.
Leading rider Don Simington booted home a pair. Curt Bourque won a pair as well.
My best bet Master Link ($5.20) prevailed in the Louisiana Cup Filly & Mare Sprint. PVal rodes the winner for Morris Nicks.
My longshot play of the day Takin’ The Bullet was bet down to 3-1 and set a pressured pace before weakening to 3rd in the LA Cup Derby.
Got a trio of tops home, and my 2nd and 3rd choices won five races. I remain in a steady groove.
LA Cup Sprint: Brother Bean ($4.00) pulled off a popular wire job.
LA Cup Oaks: Chalk up another one for the bettors, as Lightlightlight ($2.80) rallied to score for Sellers/Asmussen.
LA Cup Juvenile Fillies: Deltalicious ($24.60) was the surprise wire job winner over an unlucky Daphne Angela.
LA Cup Distaff: The headliner of the day got a scare from Miss Bean Wah, but win machine Superior Storm prevailed in the end.
LA Cup Juvenile: King of the Bayou ($16.60) rallied to beat fav Heavenville by 1-1/4 lengths.
LA Cup Turf Classic: Star Guitar was glad this race was moved to the main…he splashed home by 8!
August 2nd Preview
Sunday’s 9-race includes three grass races, but we will be off the turf because of recent wet weather. Should be a fast track though. Pick 6 carryover at $1,523.
Cat Eyes (5th race) is my best bet on the card. She enjoys this oval and exits sharp local victory.
Gentleman Dan (9th race) is my longshot play of the day. Brian House excels with first time starters, and he’s been working steadily for his local bow.
