Needing a backup center, the Philadelphia 76ers have reportedly signed Primoz Brezec. The center out of Slovenia is supposed to sign a one-year deal and will just over one million dollars.
The 7-foot-1 bigman has played with four teams since being drafted in the first round by the Indiana Pacers. After three years with the Pacers, Brezec played three years with the Charlotte Bobcats. Last year, he played with the Bobcats, Toronto Raptors and Detroit Pistons.
Brezec’s best season came in the 2004-05 campaign. With the Bobcats, he averaged 13 points, 7.3 rebounds and 0.8 blocks in 31.6 minutes per game.
For the Sixers, Brezec will provide a mobile center who has a good feel for the game. While he lacks athleticism and isn’t overly polished, Brezec works hard and is deceptively efficient around the rim. He’s likely to be the backup center behind starter Samuel Dalembert.
