Facebook announced today that it is acquiring Friendfeed. In my opinion FriendFeed is a small business success story all by itself. It’s become a valuable social networking tool for many, including myself. FriendFeed is my favorite way to keep up with my favorite bloggers, Tweets, Facebook friends, and news sites all in one place.
I wonder what Facebook is planning to do with their new acquisition? I’m sure they will integrate it with Facebook in some way, but will it be a major integration, or minor changes? How will it affect my small business? I guess only time will tell.
According to Bret Taylor, FriendFeed co-founder:
“Facebook and FriendFeed share a common vision of giving people tools to share and connect with their friends. We can’t wait to join the team and bring many of the innovations we’ve developed at FriendFeed to Facebook’s 250 million users around the world.”
Here’s the rest of Facebook’s press release.
TechCrunch has a great article about the Facebook-FriendFeed merger, and it’s updating it as the news comes in.
The FriendFeed blog also has a post up confirming that they have accepted a deal with Facebook. The post states that FriendFeed is excited about the merger, and that they will continue business as usual for now, but changes may will coming in the future when they work toward integrating with Facebook.
It will be interesting to see where this merger goes, and how other social networking companies react to the news. I’m sure there will be quite a bit of buzz before it’s all over.
