Playing on small sit-n-go tables or heads-up gives you more control over your table because you’re not going up against a larger field. Of course, you’ll have a better chance at making money but you won’t be able to win as much money as you could with a large tournament.
To win at larger tournament, there is no one set style that always wins, but you must always maintain a high level of patience to get through a larger field. Without patience, you’ll end up fizzling out no matter how big your chip stack is. Outside of patience, here are some tips for winning online poker tournaments.
- Don’t wait until it’s too late to make a move. You won’t always get playable cards to go with. Before your chips get to low, make sure to make a well calculated play prior to desperation mode.
- Embrace coin flips. You’re usually going to have to take chances at some point. A coin flip is good opportunity to build a sizable advantage. By using your position, you may even get your opponent to lay down two overs like AJ or KQ preflop.
- Once you get a large chip stack, don’t become obsessed with being a table bully. A bad beat here and a bad call there and you could suddenly become average.
