Tonight on Destination Truth: Alien Mummies

DESTINATION TRUTH: ALIEN MUMMIES / VAN LAKE MONSTER

Air Date: Wednesday, October 7, 2009 @ 10 PM on Syfy

Alien Mummies – Chile

Josh_Gates_templeJosh and team embark on their first UFO investigation in Chile, where, according to experts, an alien mummy was exhumed in the desert thousands of miles south of Lima. The stretch of land in-between is believed to be swarming with extraterrestrial activity. Locals also claim to see live aliens wandering around in the dark, mysterious lights in the sky and disembodied voices.

Van Lake Monster – Turkey

Josh and the team engage in a fishing trip they won’t ever forget: something massive may be lurking in a lake in Van, Turkey. The lake, nearly the size of Rhode Island, is supposedly home to an animal that that measures more than 40 feet long, with dark scaly skin and a long spiny back. Though the myth stretches years back in Turkish history, nobody has yet proven if the monster exists or not.

During a search on the lake’s surface, Josh catches something long, and serpentine on the thermal imagery monitor. The team returns to the US and takes their findings to a professor at Santa Barbara for analysis.

The remains in Chile look to me like a very premature, undeveloped human fetus. I wasn’t there, that is my guess.

  • Jesse

    WTF was that??????

  • porfy

YOU WERE BEING SCANNED AND THEY WERE TRYING TO KNOW WHO YOU WERE BY SENDING THOSE SIGNASL TO YOUR PARABOLIC MICROPHONE…

  • K & S

Its so hard to tell what is real and what is not these days. Im supprised how short they cut it and that they didnt take any DNA or Flesh samples from the body. They also didnt talk about much detail or playback of the strange sounds that happened. I believe that aliens are real and they are out there its just a matter of time before it goes from fiction to fact.

  • krutoi

there is no way they would leave it at that if all that was real! anyone in their right mind would have at least pocket one of those bones and got it checked out back in the states!

  • Mike Hardy

I thought that the remains that josh found was very interesting. i thought that he should have dug to try to find the head. maybe it would be there maybe it wouldnot. for a better investagation i would start searching in the caves in the morning then start the show at the night. that way the tunnels might be a little brighter and you can get to know your surronding.

If josh or anybody from the team reads this please email me at ambyconn@yahoo.com

thanks for the great show Josh from jeff and mike

I agree: there was not enough of an attempt to ‘rescue’ any portion of the remains found there. But in defense of the team, they would have been hard pressed to try and pocket any part of an ‘indigenous mummy’. It technically belongs to the country (or state) in which it was found. Luckily it was given to local authorities so at least it will be safe (hopefully).

Try not being too critical with the team… who is to say what is done between ‘takes’.

  • Dana

I agree with K&S, we can only hope and I’m sure we all feel that the Team or show should provide follow-up or an additional investigation. That is the “gap” or weakness in the program; when they actually find credible evidence, it seems to end there. Anybody know how to contact them direct and let them know how we feel?

  • Marybelle Harris

Will there be any follow ups? Is the gov’t of Chile going to have researchers look at the remains? I’m thinking possibly fetus, but buried in the mine why? Cult, aliens, what the???

  • Kane

I am ambiguous about this. First, if what was shown was true (the lights and noises), then I am as disappointed as I am thrilled. I am disappointed that there was no hard analysis of the lights by local officials, Chilean military/government, etc. Now, who knows, maybe it was turned down…but tell us. I am disappointed that further analysis of the noises was not shown as well. Those were some of the creepiest noises that I have ever heard, under any circumstances, period. I am thrilled about the investigation overall, but I very disappointed in how their results were then handled/analyzed/explained.

The remains that were found will hopefully be further analyzed, but until then I guess we will have to wait (makes me ask when episode was shot, and what efforts are being made to analyze those remians).

Come on Josh Gates. Come on SyFy. Put some pressure on the issue, make a break-through…

  • rusty

u guys forget that they were in Chile. if they tried to smuggle bones out they could prolly go to jail and im sure Chile jail is a lot worse then us jails. i would not chance that for any discovery. the bones to me looked like a chicken with birth defect.

I saw the mummy and sea monster clips. I was wondering when he interviewed the marine biologist who highly doubted their thoughts of what the creature could be, he never asked the biologist to analyze the sounds they recorded in the bay. I thought it sounded similar to a dolphin. Not to say it was, but was a marine animal, living or moving in water…maybe same vocalization or general sound-producing organs…no follow-up as reports or more info from locals…?

Now with the mummies,…who did they turn the physical evidence over to?…was it handled appropriately…tested…what were the genetic markers/findings…

these shows are the same — show a lot of what ifs etc…but not followups to scientific findings.

  • onel8j

First of all if your headed out to NO-WHERE Land to investigate Aliens, i would hope they would have been able to get better photos concidering thats what they went for – And to see all these interesting things i would have not left until i got something tangable other then photos of a rack of bones. It looked like my dinner table after thanksgiving dinner! ~ Love the show and concept, but better investigating work is need if this stuff is real. Come on TEAM give us more then just WONDERING!

  • Jason

I agree, we should demand follow ups.. and I am also as disappointed as I am thrilled, goddamn them for throwing in two destinations in one hour and not spending enough time on the intriguing findings. Keeping it mysterious, as they are, only detracts from the credibility.

  • Judith

I was shocked that there was no mention of the mummy being given to the Chilean authorities before the crew departed the country. Instead, we get to see the photos being shown around in Los Angeles. Is there any testing being done to see what the remains might be? It certainly looked humanoid. Very frustrating to leave us hanging like that. In any event, it was a thrilling exploration.

  • Elephant Queen

I am a little disappointed in the 10/07 show. The alien mummy episode was almost a joke. However, the Lake Van monster made me laugh out loud…the pictures at the beginning were elephants swimming under water. This is not as unusual as it sounds – and I’m sure anyone with knowledge of the region, the lake, etc could’ve told them that!!!!! I’ve seen it with my own eyes. Thank you.

  • Mike

I want to believe that the alien portion of the episode was true, but I just don’t know if I can bring myself to do it yet. The show is on the Syfy Channel, formerly Sci-Fi, as in “science-fiction.” And the channel is owned by NBC. If everything on that portion of the show actually happened as we all saw it; to me, it would be indisputable collective evidence of aliens and them visiting Earth. And yet, you don’t see or hear anything about it on any of the NBC news channels. And as someone touched on earlier, they definitely would have had to spend more time on the issue. The fact that the whole hour wasn’t devoted to such impressive evidence, definitely adds to my doubt. Regardless, the show was extremely convincing and I still can’t come to a conclusion.

  • Jordan

I get the frustrating feeling when you want to know what the heck that mummy thing found it, but you still have to take into consideration that they’re in a different country and that the authorities have the right to whatever is found on their soil. The team can only check up on the progress is being done on the little freaky mummy, but hopefully they’ll keep us updated in a future episodes. I’m really thrilled with the noises and everything they found and can’t wait to see what kind of evidence turns out from it. Thank you Josh Gates and your team for looking into these very intriguing events. Good Job!

  • krutoi

seriously, i just want to slap them! who the hell finds such evidence and does nothing about it??? it has to be fake! i would love for it to be true, but i just dont know anyone STUPID enough to just leave it at that!!!

  • http://sfunivers.com Brandon Lahman

    People…
Why even debate over this? The reason there is no follow up is because it’s fake. It’s staged for ratings. Dont get me wrong they definately put them selves in danger and experience things that cant be explained, but 90% of the show is staged without a doubt. Why? Why not!!! Who cares!!!! Its a great freakin show. People, if ever anything like a credible investigation is on t.v. it will be broadcasted on every major channel not on Syfy. Come on…

  • David

The remains didn’t look as humanoid to me as it did chickenoid

  • Leigh

Ok so first of all….this is a TV show that is documented. Had they tried to pocket anything it would be seen. If that had gotten out…hello there would never be another episode. Second, if they did fing something that the government already knows about do you think they are even allowed to mention it? Look at the photo of the 2 horses (google it) with the tiny creature crossing the road….compare it to the corpse (the partially decomposed corpse…remember that). That is pretty strange. Remember when they air these shows it is cut up, hacked, and put back together. There is a lot missing here and I think you should cut them some slack. If not…..you go do it.

  • onel8j

I think if it is Fake, and it seems so many of us are intrested then maybe we sould form our own investigation team and see for our selves or make a real documentry. I am sure all of us reading this are very intrested in this subject and would make great investigators! I know i would, i would have gotten better info then some slopy photos of lights. TAPS has a better investigating team then this one! LETS TAKE A TRIP and SEE for OURSELVES!

  • http://yahoo?notsurewhaturasking averagejoe702

i love syfy and my tv watching is monitored by the nielson rating system. however, i am so dissapointed in the lack of any attempt to live up to the name of the show. mot only did we not get a bit of truth but i dont even think they were destined for anything other than selling comercial time. i have pledged to myself to boycott the channel, the parent co, and all sponsors untill i do find out what that dead thing was and why they made no attempt to tell us. i feel so pissed i may even buy 5 shares in the parent co stock and exercise my right to attend the next shareholders meeting to piss them off. join me in my protest. yeah i know its a bit much but how else can 1 person be heard?

  • e

i am disappointed that this was all i could find while looking for the DNA results. i figured by now, they would have at least played a quick status of the “investigation” saying “we still have not gotten the results” or “it was a deformed chicken”…but nothing else was said at all. what sort of investigation sets out to find something, then does, but never even discloses the status of finding the results. What language do they speak in chile? maybe it would be in the chilean news…

  • jjkts

did anybody notice the letters/numbers inside the cave, if you watch it on youtube pause it at 345, 346, 347 look on the walls youll see R,7, its just as their chasing the white light out of the cave, thanks. Any feedback?

  • jane

does anyone else think that josh gates is like super HOT i mean like he is my hero and my celeb crush i love jjosh gates

  • jane

its not fake destination truth is the best show ever its better than ghost hunters and G.H.I i mean like its the best show in the world i love it!

  • BenA

I believe this show is completely staged and 100% fake. Why do they ALWAYS record at night, why do they explain their evidence away as circumstantial, why is it when their evidence is solid it doesn’t make the news or have any significance outside of the show. There has been countless episodes where they’ve obtained data thorough enough to prove their objective true, yet it’s never followed up on. Exciting show but after I noticing the obvious patterns I lost interest in it. Fake fake fake!

    • waba

Uhh DUH because it happens a lot??they couldnt even identity .
Weird things happen all the time, and theres always news about ufos etc.
And at night because its the ideal condition and they have to investigate and prepare and everything.
its not fake, they just overeact at times, when not much happens ( to keep people entertained)…

it was very intersting but what was across that canyon its a mystery now but aliens will be in the furture if you dont believe me watch the episode. Man kind as we know it my be in slaved by aliens. and if josh or one of the team members read this leave a comment for me. =)

  • Cynthia

Wow, there sure have been a lot of comments in regard to the Alien Mummies portion of the show. What can we do to find out more about this?
