Undefeated mare Zenyatta, the 2008 Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic winner, worked six furlongs in company at Hollywood Park on Oct 23rd.
The John Shirreffs trainee bested her two stablemates in 1:11.20, and the strong morning move was the best of ten at the distance.
It remains to be seen whether she defends her Ladies’ Classic title or tackles males in the BC Classic. She will be pre-entered in both races.
In other Ladies’ Classic news, Icon Project, who missed the Grade 1 Spinster at Keeneland earlier this month, has been retired with a tendon injury.
Barry Abrams trainee Lethal Heat is still on course to run in both the Ladies Classic on Nov 6th and the Turf Sprint on Nov 7th. The trainer is known for wheeling horses back quickly, so do not be surprised if she does indeed show up in both spots. Her most recent work was a four furlong move on the turf.
Anabaa’s Creation, who almost upset Zenyatta at Del Mar and most recently 5th in the Ladies’ Secret, breezed three furlongs in :38 at Santa Anita on Oct 22nd. She will have to pay a supplemental fee if she wants to run in the Cup.
Music Note went five furlongs in 1:01 and change over the Pro-Ride surface on Oct 21st. She exits back-to-back grade one wins, and she was 3rd behind Zenyatta in the ’08 Ladies’ Classic.
Talented 3yo filly Careless Jewel goes for her 5th straight tally in the Cup, and she handles synthetic ground just fine. The Woodbine based miss has arrived at Santa Anita for trainer Josie Carroll.
Others pointing to the Ladies’ Classic include Spinster 1-2 finishers Mushka and Proviso.
