The news just keeps getting worse for the Portland Trail Blazers. Already dealing with an injury to starting center Greg Oden, backup center Joel Przybilla was lost for the sesaon after tearing the patella tendon in his right leg. Video of the gruesome injury can be seen at the end of this article.
Przybilla is regarded as one of the very best backup centers in the NBA. In 22.7 minutes per game, the 30-year-old was averaging 4.1 points, 7.9 rebounds and 1.40 blocks. He was shooting 52.3% from the field and his numbers were on the way up ever since Portland lost Oden to injury.
The Blazers are also are dealing with injuries to Brandon Roy, Nicolas Batum, Rudy Fernandez, Travis Outlaw and Patrick Mills. Prior to the season, the Blazers were seen as a deep, young team with a great shot at making the playoffs. Now? Portland has to be considered a longshot to reach postseason play unless the injury bug leaves them alone — and soon.
