Fair Grounds Recap – Jan 8th

Fast main track and off the turf. Three wire jobs on the main as early-pressing types held the slight advantage.

Richard Eramia booted home a pair for the 2nd straight day. Briggy/Asmussen teamed up for a pair of winners. Guess I made the right decision with Michelle Lovell as my trainer to watch. She saddled two winners on the afternoon.

My 3rd race top Jennifer’s Venture was fractious in the gate, and she ran well to land the place despite her pre-race antics.

Unbridle’s Dream (8th race) finished a rock solid 3rd in this originally scheduled for the turf allowance affair. I always thought the Steve Asmussen trainee was most effective as a turf sprinter, and it will be interesting to see where she goes next.

On the analysis front, I got home Lovell trainee Becky’s Express ($10.80). I also tabbed the 5th race superfecta, and the pick three ending with Becky’s Express.

Munnings returns to action in the Grade 3 Mr. Prospector at Gulfstream Park on Jan 9th.

Fair Grounds Preview – Jan 9th

An 11-race program will be run on Saturday at the Fair Grounds. Mostly sunny skies are expected with a high temperature of 40.

Saturday’s feature race is the $60k Dixie Poker Ace for Louisiana bred 4yo’s and up traveling a flat mile on the turf course. Desert Wheat goes for the local trifecta of state bred turf stakes scores after capturing the Mr. Sulu on Nov 14th and the LA Champions Day Turf on Dec 19th.

My daily full cards from Fair Grounds are available through Today’s Racing Digest (free sign up), and I will be posting a daily free pick on their site as well. Click here to view my Saturday free selection (4th race) from Fair Grounds.
