Fair Grounds Recap – Jan 17th
A drying out main track, and it goes without saying that the turf races were transferred once again. Edge to early-pressing types in the seven sprints. Two late runners and a wire job made up the three route winners.
Francisco Torres booted home a pair. Merrill Scherer saddled two winners on the afternoon.
Sea The Soldier ran too good to lose in the 6th. He was hard ridden early and wide throughout. He took over in the lane only to be run down in the final yards by late running dropping fav Wing A Ding (Tom Amoss).
Clear Sailing rolled to an impressive tally in the optional claiming feature for fillies and mares. The daughter of Empire Maker, trained by Glenn Delahoussaye, could be a stakes performer in the near future.
On the analysis front, I got home chalky tops Papers To Prove It and Clear Sailing. I also tabbed my 6th race best bet exacta (Wing A Ding-Sea The Soldier).
Fair Grounds Preview – Jan 18th
A 10-race program will be run on Monday at the Fair Grounds. Mostly sunny skies are expected with a high temperature of 62. No Pick six carryover as it was hit on Sunday.
Ralph Nicks is my trainer to watch again. He has speed threat Soaring Clear in the 2nd, SoCal transplant Flyinginformation in the 4th, and sharp recent maiden winner Elusive Jozi in the 6th.
I’ll go for low profile jock Trey Agilar as my rider to watch. He has a few live mounts including Tide Rising in the 6th and Deenameetay in the finale.
