The Houston Rockets have long been in love with Kevin Martin. Early Thursday, the Rockets were finally able to get their man. In return, the Sacramento Kings will get a package built around Carl Landry and Tracy McGrady’s expiring contract.
The 27-year-old Martin has established himself as one of the better scorers in the game. In the last three seasons, he’s averaged at least 20 points per game. This year, he’s averaging 19.8 points to go along with 4.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists.
Due to the emerging Tyreke Evans, Martin’s fit on the Kings recently came into question. Apparently, Sacramento has decided that they two players don’t mesh well. Acquiring Landry should ease the sadness for Kings fans. The 26-year-old is perhaps the best bench player in the league. He’s averaging 16.1 points and 5.5 rebounds this season in 27.2 minutes per contest.
There are reports that the Kings may decide to trade McGrady’s expiring contract to the New York Knicks. If they do, Sacramento can expect more young players and draft picks headed their way.
