The boys of Formula One were out on the track of Jerez Thursday taking their cars around the track in an attempt to get the kinks out and try to get everything tuned in with the cars before the start of the 2010 Formula One season. The eleven teams that showed up for the four days of testing this week have had to contend with Mother Nature the whole week, which has made things a little spotty at times as far as the action on the track goes. Thursdays session saw Reubens Barrichello have the best time of the racers that were able to get out on the track, with a time of 1:27.145 seconds in the FW32. Reubens looked pretty good on Thursday, so they must have made a few changes since Wednesday that improved the car a bit. His time was just under seven tenths of a second in front of his nearest competitor of the day, Vitaly Petrov in his Renault.
The times that were registered on Thursday were quite a bit slower than the times on Wednesday, but the rain certainly had a lot to do with the times. It continued to rain throughout the day, and the racers and cars weren’t out on the track long, before the rain would start again. This meant that nobody really got many laps in and none of the cars were on the track for anywhere near 100 laps. The weather certainly slowed things down, but the teams and racers still got some work done on getting the cars ready, despite Mother Nature trying to frown on the occasion.
Vettel had the third best time of the day on Thursday, after recording the fastest time of the day on Wednesday, but seemed to struggle with the wet track. He still managed to stay out there to try to get a feel for the car in wet conditons, which should help the technicians later in the year on wet tracks. They won’t run often in wet conditions and the majority of their testing will be done in dry conditions, as will the racing, but doing a few laps on a wet track has its uses as well. Nico Rosberg had the fourth best time of the day in his Mercedes, Felipe Massa had the fifth best time in his Ferrari, while Pedro de la Rossa had the sixth best time on limited laps for BMW Sauber.
