If you can stop the run, you’ll increase your chances of winning a lot of games in the National Football League. The Pittsburgh Steelers have both stopped the run and won a lot of football games over the years—this past decade thanks largely to the run-stuffing efforts of nose tackle Casey Hampton. Today the Steelers signed Casey to a three-year, $21.3 million deal that should keep him in Pittsburgh for the rest of his career.
Casey is a five-time Pro Bowler. He’s a member of the Steelers’ 75th Season All-Time Team. And he’s an ironman, having started 121 of his 128 games with the Steelers. His personal stats don’t blow you away (even though he had career highs in sacks and tackles last season), but as long as the Steelers are a top five rush defense, you can bet Casey Hampton is doing his job.
