Miami Heat forward Udonis Haslem was arrested on Sunday. What was initially a traffic stop for speeding, turned into an arrest for possession of marijuana in Miami-Dade County. At 3:05 p.m. on Sunday, Haslem was stopped on Gratigny Parkway after being clocked at 78 mph in a 60 mph zone. The state trooper apparently smelled “an odor of marijuana from within the vehicle.”
After a search, Haslem and his passenger Antwain Fleming were arrested. According to court records, the 30-year-old Haslem has been charged with possessing more than 20 grams of marijuana. He also received a speeding ticket and a citation for illegal window tint. The weed charge is a third-degree felony with a maximum punishment of a $5,000 fine and a five-year prison sentence. His passenger was charged with possessing less than 20 grams of marijuana.
Haslem is a close friend of Heat superstar Dwyane Wade and a favorite of Heat president Pat Riley. Last month, he turned down higher-paying offers to stay in Miami on a new five-year contract. He has spent all seven of his seasons in NBA with the Heat.
