Allen Iverson, one of the best scorers in the history of the NBA, is taking his talents to Turkey. He agreed to sign a contract worth $4 million over two seasons to join Besiktas, a team in the Turkish basketball league. On Friday, there will be a press conference with Besiktas officials introducing Iverson.
“He’s ecstatic. He’s very excited, very happy the people in Turkey want him, the people in Turkey appreciate what he brings to the game, and he can’t wait to get over there,” said Gary Moore, Iverson’s personal manager, to the Associated Press.
The 35-year-old guard basically wore out his welcome in the NBA. As his talents faded, his ego never did. He didn’t want to come off the bench. He didn’t want to play second fiddle.
As a result, Iverson will be playing in Turkey this season. It’s sad — thought $4 million can dry a lot of tears.
