When the offseason began, the Dallas Mavericks were talking about how they had a chance to land LeBron James. In fact, owner Mark Cuban made signing LeBron James his top priority. However, unlike the Miami Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Clippers, New Jersey Nets and New York Knicks, the Mavs couldn’t even convince LeBron to come in for a visit.
Cuban recently revealed his strategy to woo LeBron — text messages. What did Cuban tell LeBron?
“It’s always taken someone to come into a good team, make it better, and put it over the top,” said Cuban. “That’s what I told him”
How did the text message conversation between Cuban and LeBron really go? Here’s how I think it went.
Mark Cuban: Hey LeBron!
LeBron James: WTF? Who’s this?
MC: This is your boy Mark Cuban! I wanted to know if you were interested in signing with the Mavs.
LBJ: LOL. You serious?
MC: Yeah! Come to our winning team and we’ll help you win!
LBJ: Huh, you don’t win.
MC: We had a parade planned in 2006!
LBJ: Yeah… well could I bring Dwyane with me?
MC: Dwyane? No need. We got Brendan Haywood to bring his talents to Dallas for $60 million!
MC: LeBron are you there?
