Troy Tulowitzki is the franchise player for the Colorado Rockies. He’s about to get paid like it. According to numerous sources, Tulowitzki is about to sign a 10-year contract worth approximately $160 million. The superstar shortstop is coming off a year where he won both the NL Silver Slugger and a Gold Glove.
In 122 games, Tulowitzki hit .315 with 27 home runs and 95 RBIs. At 26, Tulowitzki is one of the best shortstops in the game. The exciting part for the Rockies is Tulowitzki continues to get better.
The interesting aspect of this deal is that Tulowitzki was already under contract until the 2014 season. So by giving him long-term security, the Rockies avoided having to pay a premium per-season salary.
While this huge contract has yet to be officially announced, the Rockies and Tulowitzki are expected to hold a news conference later this week.
