Kenneth Ziegler, the father of OJ Mayo of the Memphis Grizzlies, is in hot water. On Thursday, he was charged with a number of crimes including attempted murder, obstructing and possession of a controlled substance (two counts). Additionally, Ziegler had outstanding felony warrants. In other words, it’s safe to say he won’t be feeling freedom anytime soon.
The incident that got Ziegler in trouble occurred at 3:30 in the morning in Huntington, West Virginia. Police say that they found him trying to hide and when they went to confront him, Ziegler attempted to drive away. In doing so, he hit a police officer and dragged him several feet. Police used spiked strips to stop the car and then Ziegler was arrested following a foot chase.
Zielger, 39, didn’t live with his son but he has been close to him over the years.
This season, Mayo is averaging a career-low 13 points in a career-low 29 minutes per game. He’s shooting 42.3% from the field and 39.1% from beyond the three-point arc. The 23-year-old was born in Huntington.
