Joakim Soria wants to kill his Mexecutioner nickname. The closer the Kansas City Royals says that his nickname is inappropriate given the violence occurring in his homeland. We’ll see if the his fans and the baseball world listen. It might be hard to get rid of such a good and catchy nickname.
Soria, who is from Monclova, Mexico, had a great season last year. He finished the season with 43 saves and an ERA of 1.78. He had only three blown saves the entire season and struck out 71 batters in 65.2 innings.
Thinking outside the box, Joakim Soria has one way to get rid of his nickname — by allowing more runs and blowing more saves. If he sucks, the Royals will have a lot of colorful nicknames for their closer, with none of those being the Mexicutioner. Perhaps “The Bad Mexcuse of a Closer”?
