The Boston Celtics are built on toughness, rebounding, defense and strength in the lane. For some reason, they forgot their roots and traded away center Kendrick Perkins to the Oklahoma City Thunder for Jeff Green and Nenad Krstic — two of the softest players in the league. The in the deal, the Celtics also traded away Nate Robinson.
While the Celtics will get minutes out of Green, there’s a lot of risk. He’s not really a small forward or a power forward. And it also can’t be ignored that the Thunder have played better without him on the floor in recent years.
As for the Thunder, this was a great trade. They get a certified championship quality center in Perkins and they open up more playing time for Serge Ibaka, a quickly developing power forward.
The Celtics have the second best record in the NBA. However, you would never have known that fact after they so violently steered off their tried and true course on Thursday.
