Yeah, everyone is trying to be nice to Butler. It was a great run and an even greater story. But at the finish line, Butler choked. Plain and simple. As a result, Kemba Walker and UConn were able to take home the college basketball national championship in March Madness 2011.
Kemba Walker and UConn played decently well. However, Butler was so bad that it was impossible for them to win. For the game, Butler was 12-for-64 from the field for 18.8%. On two-pointers, they were even worse — finishing 3-for-31. Butler even sucked at the line (8-for-14).
Matt Howard, the rugged power forward for Butler, was an embarrassing 1-for-13. He all but erased his chances of making the NBA by playing so poorly with the world watching. Shelvin Mack, who was 4-for-15 from the field, probably went from the first round bubble to the second round bubble with his performance.
Unfortunately, Butler’s back-to-back Final Fours will be mostly remembered by their two failures with their legacy on the line.
