When the NBA playoffs tipped off, nobody would have imagined that the two teams left standing in the Western Conference would end up being the Dallas Mavericks and the Oklahoma City Thunder. Pundits saw the Mavs as too old and too much of a regular season wonder. The Thunder, on the other hand, were viewed as too young and not quite ready.
The Mavs and Thunder will face off in the 2011 Western Conference Finals in a series where experts are now split on who will win. While the Mavs are favored, largely due to the fact that they own home-court advantage, either team could come out victorious.
I predict that it will be the Mavs who advance to the NBA Finals. Why? Their experience will help. As will their depth and the fact that they have the series’ best player in Dirk Nowitkzi. If they can shoot as well as they did while sweeping the Los Angeles Lakers, this series could be over in five games.
My official prediction will be Mavs in 6.
