The Los Angeles Angels were desperate for a win on Sunday night against the Texas Rangers. How desperate? They sent out their $85 million man Jered Weaver on three days of rest. The gamble ended up being a bad decision as the Rangers blasted the Angels by a final score of 9-5.
Weaver came into the game with the lowest ERA in the American League but couldn’t do much of anything right on short rest. He went six innings while giving up eight hits, four walks and seven earned runs.
For the Rangers, Josh Hamilton did most of the damage. The slugger went 3-for-4 with a walk, two runs and three RBIs. His two-run homer in the third inning tied the game, while his RBI single in the seventh gave the Rangers the lead for good.
The win pushes the Rangers three games up on the Angels in the AL West. The Angels now have to rebound and hope that their ace pitcher isn’t damaged goods going down the stretch.
