The Jacksonville Jaguars shocked the NFL world by releasing starting quarterback David Garrard on Tuesday, just days prior to the kickoff of the 2011 campaign. The fantasy football world was also affected by the news since David Garrard was seen as a decent backup fantasy quarterback.
Now the question: What is Luke McCown’s fantasy football value.
It’s not very high. Yes, he has a bit of potential but at best you are looking at a guy who will throw for 3,000 yards with 15 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. And that’s if he’s playing very well. The most likely scenario is he plays for a few weeks before handing the reins over to rookie Blaine Gabbert.
And no, Blaine Gabbert doesn’t have much fantasy football value either. He’s a quality prospect for two or three years down the line but you’ll be laughed at if you select him in your 2011 redraft fantasy football league.
As for David Garrard, his value obviously went down the drain. Even if he signs with a team that has an iffy starting quarterback, he’s a longshot to do anything fantasy-wise this year.
