Although he doesn’t have much hype, Matt Moore is one of the best pitching prospects of the last decade. The Tampa Bay Rays have been patient with the 23-year-old — until now. With the Boston Red Sox and the AL Wild Card within reach, the Rays have called up Matt Moore.
Moore’s minor league stats are sick. In 155 innings, the left-hander has 210 strikeouts with an ERA of 1.92. Although he has started 27 games in the minors this season, his role with in the big leagues — at least for this season — is expected to be out of the bullpen.
The Rays just swept the Red Sox to pull within 3.5 games. Overall, the Rays have won four in a row, while the Red Sox have lost five straight. Could Tampa Bay catch Boston and their $100 million advantage in salaries? With Matt Moore, their chances just got a little bit better.
