It’s a sad day in the hip hop community. Sylvia Robinson, known to many as the First Lady of Hip Hop, has died at age 75. She produced many of early hip hop hits including Rapper’s Delight and The Message — arguably the two most important songs in hip hop history.

According to reports, Sylvia Robinson died from heart-related issues.

In addition to her production work, she was also a record label exec and a singer. She was the CEO and founder of Sugar Hill Records. Of her solo work, her top hit was a song called “Pillow Talk,” which was released in 1973.
