After winning two World Series championship with the Boston Red Sox, you’d think Terry Francona would get a free pass for a decade or two. However, that is apparently not the case. Multiple online reports say that Terry Francona was fired as the manager of the Red Sox on Friday.
Terry Francona led the Red Sox to World Series titles in 2004 and 2007. Their World Series win in 2004 was the franchise’s first since 1918. To say Terry Francona’s eight years as manager of the Red Sox has been a success would be an understatement.
Why did Terry Francona get fired? It all has to do with the devastating September collapse. The Red Sox fell flat on their face down the stretch and now will watch the 2011 baseball playoffs on their television.
Expect to hear an official announcement from Red Sox owner John Henry soon.
