The Texas Rangers are one win away from making history. After winning Game 5 of the 2011 World Series by a final count of 4-2 over the St. Louis Cardinals, the Rangers need one more victory to claim the franchise’s first championship.
However, the news isn’t all bad for the Cardinals. Game 6 and Game 7 are both going to be played in St. Louis. In other words, if the Cardinals can hold serve, they will win the World Series.
Game 5 was another tight affair. The Cardinals got up early — scoring a pair of runs in the second inning. The Rangers tied it on a pair of solo homers by Mitch Moreland and Adrian Beltre. The big hit for Texas came in the eighth inning when Mike Napoli hit a two-run double with the bases loaded.
The next contest will be on Wednesday. The Rangers will look to win the World Series, while the Cardinals will look to extend their season another day.
