Joe Paterno wasn’t able to sweep his dirty secret under the run any longer. After saying he was going to finish out the season as head coach at Penn State, the school decided to fire Paterno — effective immediately. Paterno leaves as the all-time winningest coach in college football history.

Jerry Sandusky, Penn State’s former defensive coordinator, and his child molesting ways doomed Paterno. According to court documents, the Penn State head coach was made aware of Sandusky engaging in sex with a child back in 2002. While Paterno reported the act to his boss, he never followed up on the matter or told police.

Personally, I believe this was absolutely the correct call. What Sandusky did is horrible. Paterno should have stood up for the helpless child. Instead, he swept it under the rug and hoped it would disappear. It didn’t — and now the 84-year-old coaching legend will always be remembered as a coward who didn’t do the right thing when it really counted.

Bravo, Penn State. Shame on you, Joe Paterno.

How can you judge Joe’s thoughts and heart when you have not talked to him as to why he did not go further with it. No, his reputation is not tainted as a great coach. I have an incredible sense of justice and I find no justice in Joe’s being fired without first his being able to tell the “why.” So many are ready to stand in judgement of his decision – I know that just because someone says something does not make it true. To go to the police you have to know for sure and be a witness. MeCleary should have gone but not Joe as he had no right. He did the right thing, right away!! A person’s reputation was at stake here. You cannot judge someone or make accusation without proper facts. You are judging without facts. Hmmm
What if someone made accusations about you without facts – the President should have acted on this – Joe had no right to legally or morally! In any company you go to the person in charge of this legal matter. You don’t go further unless you are the witness. Joe was not a witness. McCleary was!
Joe’s moral heart is being judged without proper facts!!! He should never have been fired until the facts are there. Any person can go and tell things without facts and destroy a person’s life. What if someone did this about any youth worker, teacher without facts!!! It could be done at any time!
Everyone is so quick to judge when they have not been there and really don’t know what they would do unless faced with the circumstances. The Board has gone after the wrong person here to take the brunt of something they had already dealt with!! Sandusky is on trial here, no Joe or anyone else really -

Such strong comments from someone who was not involved – quick judging!
No, Joe won’t be remembered as a coward by many!!! You are speaking out of turn and “spouting off” without true wisdom or knowledge of the facts or hearts of people! I do not respect you for your unkindness!
