The New York Yankees needed pitching help. What do they do? In a trade with the Seattle Mariners, the Yankees stole one of the best, young pitching prospects in all of baseball. Michael Pineda, who showed dynamite stuff as a rookie last season, heads to New York, while Jesus Montero was sent to Seattle.
While Montero is a good hitting prospect, he will likely be forced to be a designated hitter. Why give up a stud pitcher for a designated hitter? That’s what Mariners fans are asking tonight. The Yankees, on the other hand, now have a stud pitcher to put alongside CC Sabathia and Ivan Nova.
The two teams also swapped pitching prospects, with Hector Noesi going to the Mariners and Jose Campos going to the Yankees. Get this: Campos is thought to be the better prospect. So not only did the Yankees rip off the Mariners in the main swap, they put a cherry on top.
Good going, Seattle.
