The last couple years, Hanley Ramirez has been taken near the top of fantasy baseball drafts. This year, Hanley Ramirez is oftentimes a second round pick. While I agree his value is down a bit this year, don’t sleep on Hanley Ramirez — he still has good fantasy baseball value.
His stock is down due to two reasons. First of all, he wasn’t good last season (.245 batting average with 10 homers). Secondly, he is making the switch to third base. In the fantasy world, third basemen are less valuable than shortstops.
That said, Ramirez could end up playing enough at shortstop to make him eligible at that position in your league … so be aware of that possibility. Plus, you should remember how good he can be. Back in 2008, he hit .342 with 24 homers, 106 RBIs, 101 runs and 27 stolen bases. Those are elite numbers no matter what position in comes from.
My projections for Hanley Ramirez in 2012: .299 batting average with 20 homers, 77 RBIs, 98 runs and 29 stolen bases.
