Many people have the dream of becoming a sports writer. While it’s a difficult profession to make a living in, you can definitely give yourself a fighting chance by following these steps. If you follow all of these steps, you will at the very least know you did everything you can.
1. Start a Blog
It’s free to start a blog. Even if you don’t have an audience, write everyday for the practice of it.
2. Work for Free
Be willing to work for free for the first few years. You have to get your name out there before you can expect to make money.
3. Practice, Practice, Practice
To get better at a sport, you practice. To get better at sports writing, you also have to practice. Make it a goal to write at least 2,000 words everyday.
4. Read Everything
To stay on top of the sporting world, you’ll need to read. A lot. You can’t be a sports writer unless you know everything that is happening.
5. Don’t Give Up
It’s not going to be easy. You will fail multiple times before you eventually land your dream gig. Never lose faith.
