Is there a pitcher with a higher ceiling than Stephen Strasburg? If he stays healthy, no one would be surprised if Stephen Strasburg became the best pitcher in baseball. Unfortunately, that’s a huge If. The pitcher for the Washington Nationals is only 23 years old but he’s already had a lot of arm trouble.
When healthy, Stephen Strasburg has been great. In 17 starts, he is 6-4 with a 2.54 ERA, a 0.98 WHIP and 116 strikeouts in 92 innings. Last season, after returning from elbow surgery, he was at his best: 1.50 ERA and 0.71 WHIP in five starts.
What should you expect in 2012 from Stephen Strasburg? Don’t expect too much. The Nationals are going to play it very safe with him. He’ll probably be on a pitch count restriction and an innings restriction all season long. That’s good for Strasburg’s long-term health but bad for your fantasy team.
My Stephen Strasburg 2012 fantasy baseball projections: 9-5 record, 2.55 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, 130 innings, 140 strikeouts.
