In the past, Dwight Howard has had a stranglehold on this award. However, Howard was a distraction for the Orlando Magic this season and also had some injury issues. For those reasons, the 2012 Defensive Player of the Year award is wide open.
While Tony Allen of the Memphis Grizzlies and Kevin Garnett of the Boston Celtics should be in the running, we think Serge Ibaka of the Oklahoma City Thunder will win the 2012 Defensive Player of the Year award. He’s a shotblocking machine who can also play quality post defense. Plus, he led the Thunder to a great season.
