Earlier in the day, Derrick Rose suffered a torn ACL. Iman Shumpert, a rookie guard for the New York Knicks, unfortunately followed in Rose’s footsteps later on Saturday. Shumpert tore his ACL in Game 1 between the Knicks and the Miami Heat.
The Knicks, who will be without Shumpert for the rest of the playoffs and maybe even the start of next season, had insult added to injury when they got blown out by the Heat, 100-67. New York fell behind in the second quarter and could never make a game of it in the second half.
Shumpert was a key player for the Knicks. The rookie was averaging 9.5 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 28.9 minutes per game. Even better than his numbers was his defense, which was at times elite.
While the Knicks were already underdogs against the Heat, now the mountain they need to climb is even more dangerous. Game 2 between the Knicks and Heat is Monday at 7 PM EST.
