Deron Williams used to be a very good basketball player. Nowadays, he’s not that good. That fact makes it even less forgivable that Deron Williams is an official coach killer. He got Jerry Sloan fired from the Utah Jazz and now he has gotten Avery Johnson fired from the Brooklyn Nets.
The Nets are 14-14, which isn’t that bad considering the number of new parts Brooklyn has added to the equation. However, Deron Williams has spent the season whining about one thing or the other — from his injuries to the offense that Avery Johnson utilized. At the end of the day, the Nets decided to succumb to Deron Williams’ whinning and fired Avery Johnson.
On the season, Williams is averaging 16.6 points, 8.0 assists and 3.0 turnovers, while shooting 39.8% from the field and 29.5% from three-point land. Those numbers aren’t good for a player who signed a max contract in the offseason. They certainly aren’t good enough for a player to get a coach fired.
Shame on you, Deron Williams.
