Devin Hester, one of the best return men in NFL history, is considering walking away from the game. Why is the 30-year-old thinking about retirement? It sounds like the fact that the Chicago Bears fired Lovie Smith pushed him over the edge.
Said Hester: “We’ll see how I feel. I’m going to go home and talk to my wife and talk to my family and see where we go from there. I got two beautiful kids, man, two boys. A lot of stress has been on my mind lately.”
Hester tried to make the move to wide receiver but the results have been lacking. This past season, he was a non-factor at the end of the year. As the Bears tumbled out of the playoff picture, Hester was rarely in the mix of things.
Hester added: “Not being able to showcase my talents the way I want them to be able to be showcased — it’s stressful.”
