The Cleveland Cavaliers made a trade on Tuesday that should help them in the short-term and the long-term. In a deal with the Memphis Grizzlies, the Cavs received Mo Speights, Wayne Ellington, Josh Selby and a protected first round pick in exchange for Jon Leuer.
The Grizzlies did the deal to save money. In fact, this move saves Memphis more than $6 million. Leuer is also a decent prospect who should fit in with the team.
As for the Cavs, Speights is a bigman who should provide immediate help in the middle. Ellington is a shooting guard who can knock down three-pointers. Selby has played great in summer league but that hasn’t yet translated to the NBA. The first round pick is a down-the-road asset that will help Cleveland in their rebuilding.
