With Rajon Rondo out for the season with a torn ACL, the Boston Celtics had an even more difficult matchup against the Miami Heat. It took two overtimes but eventually the Celtics beat the Heat by a final score of 100-98.
Paul Pierce led the way with 17 points, 13 rebounds and ten assists. Kevin Garnett chipped in with 24 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, three blocks and two steals.
“Everyone was really happy for the win. It brought a dark cloud in this room when you heard the news,” said Pierce of the Rondo injury.
LeBron James had 34 points, 16 rebounds and seven assists, but it wasn’t enough. A lot of the problem was that Dwyane Wade was just 6-for-20 from the field.
Even though the Celtics won this battle, Rondo’s injury makes it unlikely they will be able to win the war.
