The NBA Slam Dunk Contest has gotten negative reviews in the last decade. The main problem is the lack of star players who participate in the event. The dunk contest usually comes down to some scrub we haven’t heard of besting another scrub we haven’t heard of. Instead of complaining, Magic Johnson is offering a solution. The legend has offered up $1 million of his own money with the stipulation that LeBron James must compete.
Said Magic: “Please, LeBron, get in the dunk contest. I’m going to put up a million dollars. A million dollars from Magic to LeBron. Please get in the dunk contest. I go every year. I want to see you out there. A million to the winner.”
So, as long as LeBron is in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest, the winner of the event will get $1 million. It doesn’t even have to be LeBron winning it! That could generate some interest … but it all hinges on LeBron saying Yes.
“All-Star-caliber players helping build the league during All-Star weekend,” explained Magic.
Today, LeBron had an answer for Magic. Well, sort of.
“I don’t have a response yet,” LeBron responded when asked about Magic’s million dollar offer.
“Tell him I’ll get back to him.”
At least LeBron left the door open.
The NBA Slam Dunk Contest has so much potential. Let’s hope that Magic can save the day.
