At the end of last season, Tony Gonzalez said he was most likely going to retire. Today, however, he changed his mind. Gonzalez took to Twitter to announce to the world that he was indeed returning to the Falcons for another season.
“I’m happy to say that after speaking with my family,” Gonzalez announced on Twitter, “I’m coming back.”
Added Gonzalez: “The lure of being on such a great team and organization, along with unbelievable fan support, was too good to pass up.”
Last season, the greatest tight end of all-time was at the top of his game. The 37-year-old had 93 catches for 930 yards and eight touchdowns. It was undoubtedly his best season since joining the Falcons prior to the 2009 NFL season.
In my opinion, Gonzalez’s return makes the Falcons a Super Bowl favorite. The tight end agrees.
“We have a great shot to get to the Super Bowl,” Gonzalez tweeted, “RISE UP ATLANTA!”
