Early today, Wes Welker signed with the Denver Broncos. The New England Patriots moved quickly to fill that hole at wide receiver by signing Danny Amendola, formerly of the St. Louis Rams. Amendola will be used to fill the role Welker vacated.
For Amendola fantasy football owners, this is fantastic news. Welker was a fantasy stud with the Patriots. In fact, he put up historically good numbers. Can Amendola put up the same numbers during 2013 fantasy football?
Probably not as good — but he should see his numbers skyrocket. Last season, he had 63 catches for 666 yards and three touchdowns. His best year came back in 2010 when he totaled 85 catches for 689 yards and three touchdowns.
The biggest question mark will be health. Amendola has played only 12 games in the last two seasons.
But if he can stay healthy — watch out! He could threaten 100 receptions and 1200 yards.
As it stands, consider Amendola as a strong fantasy football play heading into the 2013 season. If you draft him, you’ll just have to hope that he remains healthy.
