Crowd funding on the internet is an extremely powerful vehicle. Just ask Rob Thomas, the creator of Veronica Mars. Earlier today, he started a Veronica Mars movie Kickstarter in hopes of securing $2 million in funding in 30 days. Less than 24 hours later, the Veronica Mars Kickstarter has already brought in more than $2.4 million!
In doing so, the Veronica Mars movie Kickstarter set all types of records. It was the fastest crowd funded project to hit $1 million. It was the fastest to hit $2 million. At the rate it’s going, nobody knows how much money will eventually be raised.
If you haven’t heard of Veronica Mars, it was a TV show that ran from 2004 to 2007. It starred Kristen Bell as Veronica Mars. In the show, Veronica Mars was a student who was also a private investigator. She learned the craft from her dad, who was a detective.
While Veronica Mars wasn’t a ratings hit, it had a large, dedicated fan base. It became a cult favorite and remained so even after it was cancelled.
In the past, Veronica Mars movie hopes were dashed due to lack of money. But thanks to the power of crowd funding, the Veronica Mars movie will soon hit theaters.
