As we detailed in the Lil Wayne dead or alive scare, Lil Wayne was reportedly close to death after a sizzurp overdose. According to TMZ, sizzurp caused Lil Wayne to suffer seizures and fall into critical condition. TMZ also said he had to be put into a medically-induced coma and that he needed tubes in order to breathe. While we don’t know how much of it was true and how much of it is bad intel by TMZ, sizzurp and hip hop stars have a deadly history.
Back in 2000, DJ Screw — the man who brought sizzurp to the mainstream — died of a sizzurp overdose. Then, in 2007, Big Moe also died of a sizzurp overdose. Big Moe rapped almost exclusively about sizzurp. His two albums were “City of Syrup” and “Purple World” — both names referencing sizzurp.
The most notable sizzurp related death came later in 2007 when Pimp C died shortly after consuming sizzurp. Pimp C was Bun B’s partner in UGK and one of the most well-respected rappers from the South.
Tonight, it sounds like Lil Wayne was close to dying from a sizzurp overdose. Throughout his adult life, he’s talked about how difficult it is to kick his sizzurp habit. Let us hope that he recovers from this scare and then is able to go on and give up sizzurp forever. Lil Wayne is too talented to go out like this.
