Wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders has signed a one-year offersheet with the New England Patriots worth $2.5 million. The Pittsburgh Steelers will now have five days in order to match the offersheet. If they don’t, they will receive a third round pick from the Patriots.
Emmanuel Sanders would fit well in a Patriots uniform. He’s a speedy wide receiver with very good athletic ability and soft hands. He could play a role similar to Wes Welker, who earlier in the offseason left the Patriots in order to sign with the Denver Broncos.
The Steelers have a difficult decision. On one hand, $2.5 million would likely be a bargain for Sanders. On the other hand, a third round pick is quite valuable. Plus, the one-year deal could open the door for Sanders to leave Pittsburgh high and dry next offseason.
