Originally released in 2000, Baldur’s Gate 2 is an isometric RPG with real-time tactical combat that lets you control a party of six, one character that you create yourself and five NPCs that will join your party throughout your adventure. It continues the plot of Baldur’s Gate in a way that lets players jump right into the second game without missing a beat.

baldur's gate 2 reviewWhy it’s great: No other game out there features the quality and depth of Baldur’s Gate 2’s setting and plot. While the main plot does a fantastic job of moving the story along and is gripping in its own right, Baldur’s Gate 2 shines in its vast selection of side quests and sub-plots, many of which involve your colorful and memorable party members. You’ll feel like you’re adventuring with your best friends by the end of the game.

Things to know: You can get the complete Baldur’s Gate saga on GOG for an unbeatable price, and they’ve done the work to make the game compatible on modern systems. Baldur’s Gate 2 is relatively bug-free and totally enjoyable without any additional mods on the first playthrough, but for your inevitable second (and third, and fourth and fifth) playthroughs, check out the dozens of quality mods that the community has produced over the years.
