Wizardry 8 is a first-person dungeon crawler with turn-based combat, published in 2001 by Sir-Tech. You’re tasked with creating a party of six adventurers, selecting from a wide variety of races and classes, that will secure the three artifacts needed to stop the nefarious Dark Savant from ascending to godhood.

wizardry 8 reviewWhy it’s great: Wizardry 8 is one of the last epic turn-based RPGs before the genre started to shift toward Skyrim-style action adventures. For lovers of classic RPGs, nothing beats the ability to create a strategy and execute it through smart tactical decisions. Wizardry 8 makes this fun with its vast potential for character customization and the vast amount of combat options. Coupled with a huge and interesting world to explore, as well as a difficulty curve that actually requires some careful thought and planning, Wizardry 8 is a perfect example of the kind of game that RPG grognards clamor to see make their comeback.

Things to know: GOG just released Wizardry 8, so now you can download this classic for just $9.99. Considering the immense adventure that this game contains and the massive amount of replay value, that price is unbeatable. GOG has also done the work to make the game compatible with modern operating systems, so there’s no excuse to miss out on this gem.
