It looks like Jason Collins has a home. According to reports, the first openly gay NBA player will soon sign a contract with the Brooklyn Nets. While the free agent period hasn’t started yet, this move makes a ton of sense for a variety of reasons and will surely become official in the coming weeks.
1. Jason Collins Knows the Nets
He played his first seven seasons in the league with the Nets.
2. Jason Kidd Knows Him
The new head coach in Brooklyn played with Jason Collins on the Nets.
3. Lawrence Frank Values Him
The recently hired assistant coach was the head honcho during the majority of Jason Collins’ stay with the Nets.
4. Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Jason Terry Connection
Last season, Jason Collins played on the Celtics alongside these three players.
5. The Nets Need a Backup Center
While Brook Lopez is a very good starter, Brooklyn lacks a dependable backup.
Great fit, Jason. Congrats!
